DeepTravelers serves a community that believes there is a vast gulf between travel and tourism. Through travel, we meet our neighbors on this small blue planet, both human and not. We are richer for this, but we are something more as well. We are wiser. We are kinder. We are the verb form of "live", as opposed to just the adjective. Travel awakens you to who you are, or even more commanding, who you were meant to be.

You've traveled when you return from a journey and know you will never be exactly the same person again. Because something touched you, got through to you. Something won your affection: The smell of earth, a stranger's eyes, the color of the sky. History. Or because an aeons old genetic memory awoke to the sound of tolling bells: Bells that pealed in just that way, and in just that place, for centuries before you were even born.

Real travel germinates the seeds of great things long dormant. Things that we all carry within ourselves, sometimes buried so deeply that they are entirely forgotten. And then, miraculously, they demonstrate their startling potential to grow and bear fruit. When this happens, we are renewed, and by surrendering our old selves, can't help but change the world around us. Deeply.
